God's omnipresence

back in school after bible study; it's amazing how many people there are in school on a saturday at 5pm!

today's bible study was quite interesting! The key verse is from Psalm 46:7, 11

The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge

God the God of hosts (the angels, stars and the multitude of people) is also a God of 1 man, a sinner named Jacob.

Elder Lim also linked it to how even though Jacob went his own way and was cunning and deceitful nevertheless God watched over Him and even sent angels to wrestle with him till he repented and ask for God's blessings. And that it was only when Jacob was aware of the presence of God that God could work in his life...

and that was my main takeaway from today, that it is only when we are aware of God's presence then can we truly be consecrated Christians. I suppose as a working adult (gah I hate that term...) we're so caught up in the business of existing (not even surviving) that we forget about the greater purpose of our life, which is to glorify and honour God, and even though we know God is omnipresent we just push that to the back of our minds without considering what the implications of that statement is. Uncle Kian Lee also talked about this in his first sermon, with the phrase "Thou God seest me" (Genesis 16:13), that God is watching over every aspect of our life and that we were to be watchful.

I especially liked how Uncle Wei Kok said that God was ever ready to mould us into a person for His pleasure. Imagine us pleasing God in our lives! (= So even though I might not know what the future holds for me, but the thought that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" and He will always be there gives me immense comfort.
