strawberries are in season and it's just 9.99 shekels for 1 box! (not sure if it's a punnet...) i love the fruits here they're so fresh and readily available...
am tempted to try the pomegranates soon but i don't want to become like persephone heh heh..isn't it strange how an asian girl associates a predominantly middle eastern (i might be wrong) fruit with greek mythology?
let me think what other associations i usually have for fruits..
apples - fall of man, the greek myth about the person dropping the fruit to slow down his competitiors?
bananas - bananas in pyjamas!
pears - hmm no association...oh oh!!! kong long rang li hahahaha that's chinese!!
pomelo - lantern festival...
grapes - the grapes of wrath! (need to get down to reading the book one of these days) and aseop's fables...i wonder if the chinese phrase about chi bu dao pu tao shuo pu tao suan is related to that...
watermelon - tom sawyer...i think he eats watermelon by the porch or something...anyway it's very western for me
mandarin oranges - chinese new year!
peach - james and the giant peach
avocado - guacamole! yum....
durian - the esplanade! king of fruits...that must be asian then!
mangosteen - queen of fruits..is that asian too?
kiwi - new zealand kiwi chocolate...i think that's because the first time i tasted kiwi was when it was a filling for chocolate
strawberries - strawberries and cream...must be from enid blyton! they always had those for tea with ginger ale etc etc and it's always "smashing"
think i'm really too kantang...are there more chinese symbolism for these fruits??
