daytime television - no wonder housewives like morning tv!

been catching a few programmes on J's wonderful cable tv...i just love the home decor and cooking shows! unfortunately israel's cable doesn't carry discovery travel and living or any of the discovery channels so i'm permanently tuned to channel 28 - Good Life!

so far, some of the shows that i've caught are colour splash, honey, i ruined the house and the surreal gourmet.colour splash and honey i ruined the house are regulars on the channel but surreal gourmet, which i think is the most interesting of the lot (it's cooking! as quickly as possible! yummy dishes!) seems to be more of a filler or rerun...the episode i caught pitted the chef against microwaved meals and it's amazing how he managed to cook a modified version of the dish in the same or less time that it takes to heat up the packaged stuff! of course he had his ingredients and equipment all prepared, but it's still really inspiring...hopefully in my 3months here i'll be able to whip up dishes so quickly and efficiently!

speaking of cooking, i'm going t\o make my grandma's dark sauce pork (it's zu nuyok in hakka) today! have cut off all the excess fat (the pork here is SUPER fatty...i think 1/5 of the meat is fat) and marinated it with dark sauce, sesame oil and pepper (mmmm). then for the veg dish it's a nod to the other grandma - french beans and carrots! it's really nice to recreate favourite dishes...hopefully the taste will be as good as theirs! then again, J has promised to eat up everything i make (haha) so even if it's a disaster it'll all be finished! he's been really good about it; eating up most of the stuff so i'm glad i married a guy with an easygoing stomach!
