went to the gynae....it's going to be a mini-me! yay to frilly dresses and loads of pastels, bye to manly outfits and toy trucks/planes/cars!

taking cabs home show you a different side of singapore and the recession...yesterday's cab driver had only been driving for 15 days and as he was working in china for 6 years before that he was super unsure of the roads. but what struck me was that he was so cheerful about driving a taxi (even though diesel is 30 a day and rental is 90 odd!!!) and he said that he was content with making a minimum of $50 a day....which works out to $1500...can i live on that? his monthly loans for the house is $1200 (exexcutive flat in CCK) and he has 2 daughters!!

strangely enough, even with this bare minimal salary (maybe his wife is the main breadwinner?) he still sends his daughter for maths tuition. and even stranger, he said that this daughter was representing her school in the maths olympiad!! his reasoning was if she goes for tuition, her maths gets better and she gets these opportunities in school....so are we having a vicious cycle of focusing on the talented and marginalizing the weaker students?!?

went to the babyfair at expo...it was really overwhelming to see all the pregnant women and strollers galore! there was a baby race and the moms were really the engines behind their babies, literally pushing them to push the bouncy rubber ball. will i become that kind of uber competitive mom? i can just see myself pushing my baby on....nooOOooooo

have been reflecting on work in general, and while i'm still unsure of where to go from here i'm glad that i had a chance to work in my office! if only to have a "macro" picture of what's happening in the education landscape...now if only i knew where exactly i fit into the system!
