Blessings

thank God for preserving me all these years, and giving me such great colleagues who celebrated my birthday for me in school. and for friends who have been sms-ing me their well wishes and treating me to dinner etc....you know who you are so thank you!

truly the Lord is merciful and gracious, I know without Him I would have nothing and there but the grace of God go I. Even though I might murmur and complain and be cynical from time to time I know that God wills it all and that He is moulding me to be the girl (okay woman since I'm on the wrong side of 20 now haha!) that will be fit for His kingdom. I used to think that Heaven would be really boring since we wouldn't do anything fun but spending time with God is really the best thing, because He will never fail or forsake you.

Sadly I was negligent in my devotion on my birthday )= but today's devotion was just in time, because usually we think we get wiser as we grow older but God says in 1 Corinthians 1:27,28

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are

So my birthday wish this year is to continue to be childlike in faith and have assurance in the Word of God, even when it doesn't make sense to me. After all, He didn't choose me because of any of my accomplishments (what accomplishments?), but He only chose me because Jesus died for me and cleansed me from my sins, and all I need to do is faithfully serve Him in whatever way I can. Amen!

An aside:
Isn't this passage really beautiful? The contrast of things and the way it's written, with the opposites stated so clearly and explictly telling you this is what IS. no ifs or buts about it. I think the lyricism of the KJV just makes it all the more compelling for me. Notice that for the first part, the object (the "foolish things" is placed before the subject ("the wise") here, which places the weight of the phrase on the weaker things, and that lends emphasis to the meaning of the sentence! In fact, the way it's phrased places what "God hath chosen" first, which should remind us that it's only by God's choice that we are where we are today and He's omnipotent and everything only happens by His will/choice and that everything on earth is merely a reaction to His work. So even in the Bible there is a nice order in the way things are said. (=

(disclaimer: my grammar is really bad which is why i'm using simplistic terms like object and subject; there's probably a whole host of technical terms which should be used...i was thinking of passive voice but it's not passive since technically "God" is the active subject and the foolish things/the wise are some clause but oh well. once i master the fine art of grammar i shall do nice sentence structure analysis!)
